About the Musings and Ramblings / Movie of the Day
For those of you curious about the Ramblings and Musings, or about the Movie of the Day postings that spawned them, here is an explanation of what it's all about.
I've been watching fantastic movies for many years now, and I've always toyed with the idea of trying to watch every movie in the Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror categories that I could. Early in the year 2001, I decided to seriously pursue the project. I initially entertained the idea of watching them in chronological order, but the vast amount of silent cinema that is no longer available proved to be a frustrating drawback, plus it didn't allow me a great deal of variety.
Eventually, I hit upon a method of taking one of the various reference books I had on fantastic cinema, and using that list as a starting point to develop my own viewing list. I would take ten movies from the list, and then choose the earliest of those ten movies chronologically for my list. I would then take another ten movies, and so on.
Once I had a list of 100 movies, I began watching them, one movie per day. As I would finish watching a movie, I would mark it complete, remove it from my viewing list, and add another movie as a replacement. If I reached a day where none of the movies on my list could be found for that day, I would add to the list until I found one that I could watch. Since I am primarily interested in classic cinema, I only include movies that are more than twenty years old.
How long can I continue this project? I don't know, but I hope to find out. I've been watching a movie a day for well over a year now, and I don't see any sign of running out of things to watch.
About four and a half months after beginning this project, I decided to start doing short write-ups on the movies I was watching for the Sinister Cinema message board (defunct) and continued the project on the Scifilm message board (defunct) and currently on the Classic Horror Film Board. I called these my "Movie of the Day" write-ups. So far, I have written more than two thousand of these.
When I began the project, I didn't anticipate a great deal of interest in them, but that has not proven to be the case; by the time I decided to start saving copies of these write-ups, I had already lost a handful of my listings due to board cleanups. These movie write-ups were rewritten for this site.
You will notice that each movie is numbered; this indicates the order in which I watched the movie as part of the project. The viewing date is the day I watched the movie, and the posting date is the day I originally made it my "Movie of the Day."
I hope you enjoy reading these write-ups as much as I've enjoyed writing them.

This site is dedicated to all of those who have helped me to locate some of these rare movies, and especially for Tim Murphy, who died this year at the age of 50. Without these people, the site would be much poorer indeed. - Dave Sindelar, August 2009
